You may think that all water damage is the same but there are actually three different types of water damage that can destroy your home.  Each form of damage requires different techniques for drying and remediating the issues.

Clean Water

Water DamageClean water damage is typically water that originates from within the home. The most common culprits include broken water supply lines, sink overflows, appliance malfunctions and falling rain water. This is the easiest form of water damage to remediate. If left untreated for 72 hours clean water can turn into gray water which is…

Gray Water

Gray water consists of a large level of contamination. If humans consume or wade in this water it can actually cause discomfort or illness. Gray water contains microorganisms and nutrients for microorganisms.

The common sources of this problem include dishwashers, washing machines, and toilet bowls. Gray water also may contain chemicals, bio-contaminants, and other forms of water contamination. Carpet that has been contaminated with gray water must be completely removed and disposed of properly. If left untreated, gray water can escalate to the worst form of water damage known as black water.

Black Water

Black water is the worst form of water damage and is often highly contaminated with sewage and other dangerous microorganisms.  Black water is typically the result of natural disasters and sewage overflow. This type of water can include toxic materials such as bacterial diseases, chemicals, pesticides, microbes and other nasty stuff.

This type of water damage can cause serious health issues and should be taken care of immediately.

Disclaimer

It should be noted that the different levels of water contamination (Gray and Black) do not denote the actual color of the water but the level of contamination of the water.
